How does St Luke's fit into the wider Christian Church?

The Christian Church consists of all those people who believe and trust in Jesus Christ and follow him. Here is a web site which tries to present the beliefs of Christians and the basics of the Christian Gospel: www.rejesus.co.uk.

Nationally ...

We are part of the Anglican Communion worldwide, and their website gives a good summary of how the Anglican Churches in different countries relate to each other and what they believe. The Church of England is part of this communion of churches, and the official website gives details of our national Church.

The Church of England is divided into 42 dioceses, and we are part of Bradford Diocese. (However, the Church of England is in the process of creating one new Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales in place of the three dioceses of Bradford, Wakefield, and Ripon & Leeds.)

As well as the Anglican Church, there are many other Christian denominations. They are all united in the central beliefs of the Christian Faith, but there are some matters of church organisation which they see differently.

The different denominations used to be in competition with each other, but our relationship has changed over the last century. Churches Together in England and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland are umbrella organisations which help churches work together.

Locally ...

Our neighbouring Church of England churches are:
St James Bolton
St Cuthbert Wrose
Holy Trinity Idle
St John Thorpe Edge
St John the Baptist Greengates
St Wilfrid Calverley
St Margaret Thornbury
St Augustine Bradford
Bradford Diocese is divided into eight "deaneries" - these churches are part of Bradford North Deanery, except Calverley which is now part of Armley Deanery.

The whole question of deanery boundaries is up for discussion at the moment, and you can read the proposals here.

We are part of Churches Together in North Bradford, which comprises eight churches:
- St James Bolton
- St Andrew Undercliffe (Methodist)
- Eccleshill Methodist
- Bolton Methodist
- St Clare Roman Catholic
- St Francis Roman Catholic
- Eccleshill United Reformed
but the group is aware that its boundaries aren't ideal any longer, and other churches are being invited to join the group.

We support various missionaries and mission agencies overseas and in Britain:
